FT House, located in Barbaros Village in İzmir’s Urla district, stands out with its single-story spatial configuration, bringing together enclosed and semi-open spaces beneath a single gable roof.

Respecting the local rural fabric of the site, the architectural design divides the building into three main sections through two high-quality massive walls. Maximizing the vertical volume of the roof to ensure a spacious spatial continuity, the central section is allocated to the living room and kitchen functions; bedrooms and their associated private usage areas are positioned on either side of this central volume.

The fluidity between the indoor and outdoor spaces of the building has been optimized through window openings and facade voids positioned by taking into account climatic data along with the seasonal movements and directions of the sun. Designed on the east and west sides, two separate covered terraces adapt to the changing position of the sun during morning and evening hours, creating flexible microclimate comfort zones and allowing more active use of outdoor areas during seasonal transitions.

Consequently, while heat losses are kept to a minimum during the winter months, sliding wooden shutters have been integrated into the facade to prevent overheating and ensure solar control in the summer. The material palette created by using the village’s local stone, white-painted plastered surfaces, and wooden shutters together on the facade presents a timeless, ecological, and high-quality residential example within the rural geography of Urla.
